The 45th Asian Medical Students' Conference (AMSC) was held in Tokyo, Japan from July 21st to 27th, 2024, with the theme of Disaster Medicine. This theme is timely due to the increased frequency and severity of natural disasters globally, compounded by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and recent geopolitical events like the Myanmar coup and the Israel-Gaza conflict. These crises highlight the need for effective health emergency and disaster management strategies.

Drawing on Japan's extensive experience in managing natural disasters, the conference aimed to foster international collaboration across the Asia-Pacific region. Disasters significantly impact communities and healthcare systems, as seen with Japan's history of natural calamities, including the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami.

Disaster Medicine involves preparing for and mitigating major incidents and disasters. The conference's objectives included exploring disaster responses at various levels, examining the health impacts of disasters, and scrutinizing healthcare management during crises. AMSC 2024 aimed to raise awareness, discuss pertinent issues, and explore solutions to equip future medical practitioners to handle disaster scenarios effectively.
